As The Washington Post  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/articles\/A53153-2005Mar21_2.html\">barely touched on<\/a>, it is first and foremost hypocrisy.  What happened about the concerns for state\u2019s rights?  Every time a Republican says judges should stay out of certain decisions, we should always bring up this and the 2000 election as evidence that the GOP loves activists judges when they can help them.  <\/p>\n<p>As Terri Schiavo\u2019s husband and with full concurrence of her doctors, he should be allowed to make this decision.  She has been brain dead for 15 years.  It\u2019s not as if she\u2019s going to recover tomorrow, unless by some miracle.  If that\u2019s the case, we should leave dead bodies lying around in the hopes that a miracle will cause them to rise from the dead.<\/p>\n<p>It is an abuse of Congressional power.  I only hope the courts see it for what it is.<\/p>\n<p>I am disappointed that no Democrat stepped in to stop this legislation.<\/p>\n<p>I feel strongly about this, as my family faced a similar decision.  I have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesdispatch.com\/scripts\/isapi_srun.dll\/servlet\/Satellite?pagename=RTD%2FMGArticle%2FRTD_BasicArticle&#038;c=MGArticle&#038;cid=1031781693195&#038;path=%21editorials%21oped&#038;s=1045855935007&#038;DPL=JPsPDSL7ChA75gkNJuA7&#038;tacodalogin=yes\">an op-ed in the Richmond Times-Dispatch<\/a> today about it.<\/p>\n<p>A hearing is set for 3:00 this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Update:  DC Inside Scoop <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcinsidescoop.blogspot.com\/\">has the memo<\/a> purportedly from Sen. Rick Santorum&#8217;s office about the politics of this case.<\/p>\n<p>Update 2:  Kevin Drum <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonmonthly.com\/archives\/individual\/2005_03\/005897.php\">has info on an ABC poll<\/a> on this issue.
