{"id":286,"date":"2009-05-01T15:49:34","date_gmt":"2009-05-01T19:49:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/000af36.netsolhost.com\/wordpress1\/2009\/05\/01\/what-are-the-gopers-smoking\/"},"modified":"2009-05-01T15:49:34","modified_gmt":"2009-05-01T19:49:34","slug":"what-are-the-gopers-smoking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/griendling.com\/wordpress1\/2009\/05\/01\/what-are-the-gopers-smoking\/","title":{"rendered":"What are the GOPers Smoking?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the GOP tries to find its voice, may we suggest they first reverse the Bush administration\u2019s rejection of reality.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0409\/21972.html\">this story<\/a> about the coming decision to replace Justice David Souter on the Supreme Court, we have Wendy Long of the Judicial Confirmation Network and a former clerk to Justice Clarence Thomas saying,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong><em>The current Supreme Court is a liberal, judicial activist court<\/em><\/strong>. \u2026 If Obama holds to his campaign promise to appoint a Justice who rules based on her own \u2018deepest values\u2019 and what&#8217;s in her own \u2018heart\u2019 \u2013 instead of what is in the Constitution and laws \u2014 <strong><em>he will be the first American President who has made lawlessness an explicit standard for Supreme Court Justices.\u201d&#160; <\/em><\/strong>(emphasis added)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Let\u2019s forget that liberals have been losing most SCOTUS decisions to a 5-4 conservative majority.&#160; But then to suggest that because Obama might consider life experiences, he therefore is looking for lawlessness as a standard for selecting a justice?<\/p>\n<p>Well, reality seems out of reach for GOPers.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The GOP obviously does not have much power in D.C. these days, but <em><strong>just like we helped ourselves by opposing the deficit-busting stimulus<\/strong><\/em>, opposing left-wing nominees like her is our path back to the majority,\u201d one Republican source said.
