{"id":236,"date":"2009-07-04T17:07:16","date_gmt":"2009-07-04T21:07:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/000af36.netsolhost.com\/wordpress1\/2009\/07\/04\/bias-by-a-reporter\/"},"modified":"2009-07-04T17:07:16","modified_gmt":"2009-07-04T21:07:16","slug":"bias-by-a-reporter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/griendling.com\/wordpress1\/2009\/07\/04\/bias-by-a-reporter\/","title":{"rendered":"Bias By a &ldquo;Reporter&rdquo;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Feeling a little disrespected, progressives, after President Obama yesterday told you to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2009\/07\/03\/AR2009070302309.html?hpid=topnews\">mind your manners<\/a>?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&quot;We shouldn&#8217;t be focusing resources on each other,&quot; Obama opined in the call, according to three sources who participated in or listened to the conversation. &quot;We ought to be focused on winning this debate.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>Specifically, Obama said he is hoping left-leaning organizations that worked on his behalf in the presidential campaign will now rally support for &quot;advancing legislation&quot; that fulfills his goal of expanding coverage, controlling rising costs and modernizing the health system. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And if you don\u2019t\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Obama also hinted that efforts are under way to discourage allies from future attacks on Democrats, according to the source, who did not have permission to speak on the record about the discussion.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So an anonymous source delivers his threat.&#160; Obama\u2019s reputation as a wuss is bolstered. Progressives, perhaps it will be an anonymous source who\u2019ll put you in the time-out corner.<\/p>\n<p>And helping the president in his effort to exert discipline on those who worked for change and are increasingly disappointed is the \u201creporter\u201d of the article.<\/p>\n<p>See, she\u2019s not a real reporter.&#160; She\u2019s not the kind of reporter who delivers the facts and context dispassionately.&#160; She\u2019s the kind of \u201creporter\u201d who finds ways of denigrating those she doesn\u2019t respect.&#160; Isn\u2019t that what we do when we describe someone in quotes?&#160; <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>MoveOn, a Web-based political action committee that works to elect &quot;progressive&quot; leaders, intended to run commercials\u2026.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Can you imagine her writing that Focus on the Family works on behalf of electing \u201cconservative\u201d leaders?&#160; You might think that she thinks they\u2019re not really conservative at all, but wannabes.&#160; Or worse, some fringe group.<\/p>\n<p>This is the same \u201creporter\u201d who drew a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.commonwealthcommonsense.com\/commonwealthcommonsense\/2009\/07\/why-reporters-should-keep-opinions-to-themselves.html\">strong reaction form someone she misquoted<\/a>, after accusing him of being unable to \u201cto articulate a substantive argument for the public plan,\u201d when the \u201creporter\u201d hadn\u2019t asked him to do so. <\/p>\n<p>Ceci Connolly clearly has a chip on her shoulder.
