{"id":1741,"date":"2009-09-28T17:27:17","date_gmt":"2009-09-28T21:27:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/000af36.netsolhost.com\/wordpress1\/2009\/09\/28\/the-presidents-ratings-plummet\/"},"modified":"2009-09-28T17:27:17","modified_gmt":"2009-09-28T21:27:17","slug":"the-presidents-ratings-plummet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/griendling.com\/wordpress1\/2009\/09\/28\/the-presidents-ratings-plummet\/","title":{"rendered":"The President&#8217;s Ratings Plummet?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe president&#8217;s ratings plummet\u201d is a phrase lifted from a quote by Charlie Cook in describing the usual path of post-election favorability ratings of a president in front of a huge loss in the off year election that follows.&#160; It\u2019s part of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brendan-nyhan.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/will-2010-be-like-1994.html\" target=\"_blank\">post by Brendan Nyhan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This month\u2019s, Obama\u2019s rating have ranged from 50% (at the beginning of the month to 58% (with the latest poll at 56%).&#160; Even if that\u2019s more than a 10% decline form its peak, is it really fair to suggest that Obama\u2019s ratings are \u201cplummeting\u201d?&#160; Falling, sure, but in the last month they haven\u2019t even been doing that. At worst, they\u2019re stabilizing.<\/p>\n<p>But that doesn\u2019t make for good press, does it?&#160; I wonder if his ratings hit 60% we\u2019ll hear of his \u201cskyrocketing\u201d poll numbers?<\/p>\n<p>P.S.&#160; If you ever wondered what \u201cright track\/wrong track\u201d really measures, here\u2019s something I stumbled across while looking at the numbers above:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Right track number was 43% in June 2001.<\/li>\n<li>Right track number jumped to 72% in September 2001 and stayed there for three <strong>after the 9\/11 attacks.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Right track number was 36% in January 2003.<\/li>\n<li>Right track number jumped to 62% in April 2003, a month <strong>after we invaded Iraq<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Just wondering, what was so right track about 9\/11 and the Iraq War?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe president&#8217;s ratings plummet\u201d is a phrase lifted from a quote by Charlie Cook in describing the usual path of post-election favorability ratings of a president in front of a huge loss in the off year election that follows.&#160; It\u2019s part of a post by Brendan Nyhan.
