{"id":1645,"date":"2010-09-16T17:17:31","date_gmt":"2010-09-16T21:17:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/000af36.netsolhost.com\/wordpress1\/2010\/09\/16\/salt-lake-paper-limits-comments\/"},"modified":"2010-09-16T17:17:31","modified_gmt":"2010-09-16T21:17:31","slug":"salt-lake-paper-limits-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/griendling.com\/wordpress1\/2010\/09\/16\/salt-lake-paper-limits-comments\/","title":{"rendered":"Salt Lake Paper Limits Comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Deseret News has instituted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deseretnews.com\/article\/700065973\/Letter-from-the-deseretnewscom-team-to-our-readers.html\" target=\"_blank\">a new comments policy<\/a>.&#160; The newspaper encourages but doesn\u2019t require that commenters post using a screen name that is a form of their real name.&#160; Not sure why they don\u2019t just require the real name as they are requiring a real name and zip code in the registration process.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>What strikes me as wrong, however, is its new policy to limit the number of times one person can comment to two.&#160; These sections, if they were among people we could identify, might be much more constructive and civil.&#160; Discussion should be encouraged, and I wish more reporters would weigh in with clarifications when people draw incorrect assumptions about the issue covered.&#160; Not that over taxed reporters have the time, mind you.<\/p>\n<p>It makes little difference to me, as I rarely comment on a story and almost never read any of the comments.
