And a little too flip-lipped.  But the way he changed the Democratic Party cannot be underestimated.  If it wasn&#8217;t for his candidacy, you wouldn&#8217;t see <a href=\"http:\/\/story.news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story&#038;cid=536&#038;e=2&#038;u=\/ap\/20040219\/ap_on_el_pr\/campaign_poll\">polls<\/a> showing either Kerry or Edwards handily beating Bush in November.  Dean wrote their campaign speeches, or at least gave them the outline.  Otherwise, we might have ended up with Bush-lite Joe Lieberman as the Democratic candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope Dean, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelogsi, Edwards, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanprogress.com\">Center for American Progress<\/a>, journalists <a href=\"http:\/\/msnbc.msn.com\/id\/3449870\/\">Eric Alterman<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/top\/opinion\/editorialsandoped\/oped\/columnists\/paulkrugman\/\">Paul Krugman<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/articles\/A53122-2004Feb18.html\">Howard Meyerson <\/a>and a few others can keep the pressure on the Dems to at least attempt to be an opposition party.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK, so Howard Dean was a little over the top for some.
